Your Calling – What is it?

There are so many times where we feel like we don’t have a purpose. We look around at everyone else and their success, their calls to live out their lives in a big way, and we feel as though we do not measure up, or that God doesn’t have a plan for our lives. We may feel that if we don’t have our lives in order, or if we are too much of a sinner, that God can’t use us.

First, I challenge you to slow down and rest in the knowledge that you’re a child of God and that he created us with much intention.

Read this… “All things have been created through him and for him.” – Colossians 1:16

Last time I checked, we as humans were a CREATED thing. God created us for himself! He has a plan for each one of us! You’re a child of God and he has big plans for you, so the fact that you are here now, reading this, and ready to find out what your calling is is a big step in the right direction.

Second, don’t expect an answer to just fall from the sky of “you should be blah blah blah” or whatever. Sometimes God doesn’t always answer our questions in the way that we expect him to. He is a mysterious God at times, but he has a reason for the things that he does.

Third, make a list of the things that excite you. God puts passions inside you to ignite your spirit and soul. Take a moment, make sure you can really spend 15 minutes to focus, and write down the things that ignite your soul. It can range from dancing and taking photos to going to the movie with friends or even making jewelry. Whatever it is that makes you happy and excited, write those things down.

Fourth, reflect on these things, and think about what it is that you think, combined with your strengths and weaknesses, that you could do in your life to fulfill your desires of happiness.

Last, but certainly not least, pray that God reveals to you the direction that he wants you to head in to live up to your full potential and calling – AND have the faith to follow through even if it’s scary or uncomfortable. Also, give God the opportunity to speak to you without you interrupting him.

– (let me give you an example)-

After doing the things I have instructed you, I have realized that encouraging others, helping and loving people is something I am most passionate about. However, I didn’t know if that meant ministry or continuing my career towards real estate with a side blog, volunteering or speaking at a church. I believe that God will make that apparent in time, but I am pursing my passion and calling in this blog, and doing whatever I can to encourage others. I would encourage you to do the same – by figuring out little things you can do and add to your life to add to your joy and feeling of purpose, then do it and make a commitment to do it well.

“Whatever your hands finds to do, do it with all your might” – Ecclesiastes 9:10
P.S. – Most of the time, what we are called to do may seem too big, or will likely be out of our comfort zones. You have to have the faith to step out knowing that God will be your strength. I don’t agree with the saying that “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” I believe that he will, BUT, he is our strength, and “we can do all things through him who gives us strength.” Philippians 4:13.

If you’re comfortable, you’re not growing, you’re not learning and you’re not pursing your calling.

Sincerely, Rochelle
